The module, Exploring School Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice is divided into three sections
Upon successful completion of:
- Section One: Overview of the School Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and the section evaluation, participants will receive 0.75 Nursing Continuing Professional Development Contact Hours
- Section Two: Using the School Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice to Guide Decision Making and Advocacy and the section evaluation, participants will receive 0.6 Nursing Continuing Professional Development Contact Hours
- Section Three: Using the School Nursing Scope and Standards to Understand the Professional Expectations of School Nursing and the section evaluation, participants will receive 0.6 Nursing Continuing Professional Development Contact Hours
Course Description:
This module provides the school nurse with an overview of the 4th Edition of the School Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The module discusses how the scope and standards can be used to guide and evaluate the school nurse’s practice and assist them in developing learning and practice goals.

- Section Two: Using School Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice to Guide Decision Making and Advocacy
- Using Scope and Standards of Practice and the NASN Framework for the 21st Century School Nursing Practice to inform, guide, and validate the school nurse’s practice
- Advocating for students’ access to school nursing services every day, all day
- Section Three: Using School Nursing Scope and Standards to Understand the Professional Expectations of School Nursing
- Using Scope and Standards to develop or revise a job description
- Using the school nurse competencies to develop a tool(s) for yearly self/peer/supervisor evaluation of the school nurse’s practice
- Using Scope and Standards of Practice and evaluation process to identify opportunities for ongoing continuing education opportunities
